General Description
With this optional Radio Acoustic Sounding System (RASS), the LAP3000 provides virtual temperature profiles up to 1.5 km agl. The RASS subsystem, composed of four acoustic sources, one on each side of the LAP3000 antenna, transmits an acoustic wave directed vertically. The LAP3000 uses the propagating acoustic wave as a target, receiving and processing the resulting backscatter and effectively measuring the speed of sound propagation and thus the virtual air temperature.
